GEAR UP students and parens are encouraged to take an annual survey.

We need your help

The 2019-2020 school surveys are now available online and for download. Surveys are to be filled out by students and parent/guardians annually to let us see how our program is helping and where we need to improve.

Learning while having fun

Summer programs provide students with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) readiness experiences while learning from mentors and working in groups. All activities work to challenge students and build confidence for future goals and success.

Parent Perspectives on GEAR UP: University IS in Her Future

A video, released in October 2019, introduces our local GEAR UP program through the perspective of program directors and parents. It explores what the program offers students, partnerships with schools, and the impact that it is having on students and their families.

About Us

The Utah State University STARS! GEAR UP program is part of the School of Teacher Education and Leadership in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federally-funded program designed to help students prepare for and succeed in college. USU created the Science, Technology, Arithmetic, Reading Students (STARS!) partnership program to provide academic support, mentoring, and guidance to help a cohort of students, starting in 7th grade, reach a post-secondary education program that meets their needs.
